The Cavalier Test - transformative

Summary: One of the most valuable lessons I learned from you is that when training to increase muscle size, instead of focusing on moving weights, it's more effective to challenge the muscles.

Another tip I picked up from my bodybuilder friend Ben Ski is to contract the muscles really hard. This can be tested with the 'cavalier test', where if flexing the muscle causes a cramp-like sensation, it indicates good muscle stimulation.

When exercising, the goal is to aim for this feeling in each repetition.

Episode AI notes

  1. To increase muscle size, it is more important to challenge muscles than to move weights.

  2. Certain muscles will grow better and get stronger easier because of their ability to contract hard.
